HEMEL SKI RACER – NEWSLETTER APRIL 2012
The 2011/12 Winter ski race season has been an incredible success for GB Childrens ski racer and Hemel Ski Race Club member Robert Poth age 14.
The Race season began on a high in December 2011, with impressive wins in Champoluc, Italy at the British Alpine Ski Race Club Championships.
Robert competed in both Giant Slalom and Slalom races in his age group and won both overall and was presented with the 2012 BARSC award for the overall Best British Children Under 15 Male ski racer.
In January, Robert travelled to the Czech Republic with the GB Childrens Ski Race Team in his first International race this season. Roberts fine form continued competing in the U15 age category comprising of the best Slovenian, German, Czech and 17 other nations. History was made after Roberts first run as he was the winner of the first race which turned heads up and down the mountain! Robert is the first Brit to lead a ski race in the Czech Republic. In the Giant Slalom the day after, Robert skied to 8th place overall.
In February, Robert competed at the English Alpine Championships in Bormio, Italy picking up two more National titles. He continued to light up the scoreboards in Alpine Ski racing, narrowly missing out on a clean sweep of all three disciplines as he unfortunately crashed out on the 2nd run of Slalom. Robert won the U16 Giant Slalom by over 3 seconds overall and also won the U16 Super Giant Slalom Champion title.
At the beginning of March, Robert was very proud to have been selected to represent Great Britain at the Topolino Childrens Winter Olympics in Folgaria, Italy. In the Slalom race, Robert placed a very respectable 16th Place overall and had a fantastic top 10 result on the 2nd run which placed him 9th overall. He was delighted to be awarded a Trophy for being the Best British ski racer at the 2012 Topolino International Championships.
The winter race season ended spectacularly last week with the Scottish Alpine Championships in Courchevel and The Delancey British Childrens Alpine Ski Race Championships in Meribel, France.
During five days of intense ski racing, Robert brought home an impressive haul of 5 Gold and 2 Silver medals and also three trophies!
At the Scottish Alpine Championships, he won the Giant Slalom 2nd run and the slalom race overall.
At the British Alpine Championships, Robert won the U16 Super G Championships and was presented with the Rolls Royce Trophy. He also won the U16 Giant Slalom Championships for which he was presented with the Ski Council of Wales Trophy and his combined points for each discipline earned him the much deserved title of U16 British Male Ski Race Champion for 2012.
Robert thanks very much the support and encouragement he receives from Jon Reidy and the Hemel Ski Race Club. Robert has had another incredible year of ski racing results and a ski racing magazine published, that he is certainly one to watch out for in the future!
