Competitors, coaches and parents are reminded of the need to ensure that ski poles have properly fitted ‘bungs’ when used on dry slope, to reduce the risk of serious injury. This applies equally in training and racing – when you compete in an official race the officials in the start will be checking your poles, but you should do your own checks whenever you prepare to go out on the slope. It might seem like a lot of fuss over nothing but a recent incident during a training session highlights the genuine risk of significant injury if you are not properly equipped.
